Everything You Need to Know About Starting Your Own Podcast

As summer is in full swing and Fall is just around the corner, we know podcasts are on the rise, and we know many of YOU are beginning to start your own! Well, we want to help you out! Whether it’s your dream to start a podcast but don’t know where to start, or if you’ve started but need help achieving your goals, we have the perfect resources to help you get there. We’ve put together a list of 5 simple steps to take to assemble your DREAM podcast!

Step 1: Do Your Research to Brainstorm

Before you start your own podcast, you need to know what makes a good podcast, what works and what doesn’t, and what topics you want to cover! You want to make sure you talk about what you are interested in, and know what your audience wants to hear. You want to cover topics in a way that will keep your audience engaged. When conducting audience research, you want to look for a demand that is out there for a certain topic that you could be an expert on or find the experts to interview!

Our network’s podcasts are the perfect resource to help you with this research. Feel free to dive deep into any and all of our incredible podcasts to gain inspiration! You just may find a new favorite.

We also offer a FREE workshop about Intro to Podcasting with our Director of Operations, Fallon Klug! In this video, Fallon covers the basics of podcasting featuring: what is a podcast, creating and promoting your podcast, growing your podcast, knowing your analytics, bonus tips, and more!

Step 2: Create Your Podcast Idea

Now that you have an idea for what you want for your podcast, it’s time to create! Start writing the script for your trailer and first episode – or if you want a guest for your first episode, start writing guest pitches and put together some good questions or topic ideas for your guest. Make sure your trailer is short, sweet, and to the point, and make sure your first episode always traces back to the main point. You can also start thinking of ideas for your cover art and other marketing images. You can even make any marketing images yourself in Canva!

If you’re someone who needs more help with graphic design, script writing, or anything else in this process, That Sounds Fun Network has a consulting service! We are always here to help you with anything regarding content strategy, production, and marketing.

Step 3: Record and Edit Your Podcast

Once you have the scripts for your trailer and first episode finalized, it’s time to start recording! You can record your podcast episodes anywhere at any time – with the right equipment. Lucky for you, we have put together another workshop video for you about all things production! Our seasoned engineer Anthony walks through the must-have equipment to get your podcast up and running, high quality gear recommendations, the basics on setting up the equipment, and more!

Or, if you are someone who would rather have help with podcasting equipment, we also offer studio rental services just for you! You can record in one of our studios with an engineer who records audio and video files for you! We would love to have you!

Step 4: Create a Marketing and Advertising Plan for your Podcast

Now that everything is set as far as getting the podcast recorded, it’s time to start working on marketing and advertising your podcast! You want to make sure your audience is always up to date on what is going on with your podcast and that you have a unique online presence. It’s important to stay engaged with your audience on all public platforms. That’s why our marketing workshop with Lani is a great way for you to learn how to consistently promote your podcast! She covers marketing strategies for different digital platforms, how to take advantage of the “free real estate” offered to you, how to strengthen your online presence, and more!

If you’re looking to gain a little income through your podcast, advertising is the way to go. That’s why we also have an incredible advertising workshop with Heather about advertising best practices. In this workshop, you’ll learn to understand what brands expect when advertising a podcast, what to put in your media kit, and more.

Step 5: Publish Your Podcast and Value Feedback

After everything has been finalized, you can finally publish your podcast! An easy (and free!) way to do this is to use the platform Spotify For Podcasters. From there, you can publish your podcast to any platform you’d like and gain access to detailed analytics to help you know how your podcast is doing.

Once everything is up and running, don’t be afraid to ask for feedback! Ask for your friends and family’s opinions, and let your listeners know that you value your opinion. You can also allow us here at TSF Network to take a look at your podcast and create an audit for you! We’ll dive deep into all things content, production, marketing and advertising and tell you how you can make your podcast even better!

We hope this has helped you know more about how to reach your dream podcasting goals! If you have more questions about us or our services, feel free to reach out to us at info@thatsoundsfunnetwork.com
